Eastbourne SRS sportive- May 20

last year was the first year that SRS has organised a sportive as part of the Eastbourne festival of cycling, we decided to do it again this year as well. We ended up riding as three groups: myself, Derek and Steve D were riding the 50 miler, Ivan and Mike rode over to do the 50 miler and then rode back, while Malc, Paul and Josef did the 80 miler. We managed to ride together for about 5 miles but then broke off into our respective groups. Steve's legs felt tired as he had done the triathlon the day before at the Eastbourne festival, Derek was a little off the pace so for me the pace was nice and comfortable (which is how I like it!). The route finished with the climb up Cuckmere Haven and Beachy Head, Steve was having trouble with his groin on this climbs (having done 600 miles in the last month) but managed to hang on and complete the route. In terms of value for money the organisers SRS are a bit stingy as they don't even give you a cup of tea at the end, although we did very much enjoy the sausage rolls at the feeding station and Steve made sure that he picked up a good number of the free energy bars that were on offer. Neither myself or Derek are prepared to pay so much money to do this route again but as we have the excellent route saved on GPS we will do it as a club run special next year!
