Bedgebury Blow For Dave - 29 June
At last a decent run of dry weather to give Bewl water chance to dry out. Dave HH said he would meet us there after doing two laps of Bedgebury first (part of his preparation for the trans alp). Not long after we arrived, Malcolm had a phone call from Dave with some bad news. Dave had fallen off at Bedgebury and was waiting for an ambulance with a suspected broken collar bone! Dave was not on his own but Malcolm arraneged to pick up his car for him afterwards, we hoped that he was wrong about the collar bone.
Ivan was on his very first off road ride with the rocky mountain 29er that he bought from dave last year- how was it going to ride?, is the 29er phenonmenon a load of hype? Great to see Paul H there as well on his very first Bewl ride with us but unfortunately we wont see him again for a while as his wife is due to give birth to their fourth child in 2 weeks time(another one of us with 4 kids- whose says cycling lowers sperm count!)
It was great to get round bewl again, everything looks so green. There was a lot more mud than usual for the time of year but it was perfectly rideable. We only had time for one lap. Ivan absolutely loved the 29er and said he felt like he was floating, although he did say he was still glad to have the thudbuster suspension post in the frame for his bad back. Weather is looking good for the comiing week so hopefully we can get back there next Friday and do our more usual 2 laps.
Bad news from Dave as the ambulance crew reckoned he was correct about the broken collar bone. This is terrible bad luck for dave as since Xmas he has done so much training and lost so much weight in order to get ready for the Transalp (400 miles across the Alps) We wish him a speedy recovery.
