Early Bird- Criss Cross 50 miler

Another full length ride for the early birders. Just myself, Dave,Jon, Paul B and Simon G were up for this. Our chosen route was what I consider to be the very best of Chris Parker's routes- Criss Cross. This ride is full of hills with 1,384 miles of climbing. After the awful gales the day before the strong wind didn't seem too bad although it was still quite cold for the time of year. I still felt fitter than I normally do and so set quite a hard pace. Jon was a little off the pace for some reason at the start but soon picked up. Paul had been on his turbo trainer the night before (not a good idea) and so started to flag after around 30 miles with cries of 'where is the tea shop'. Fortunately the route passed through Battle so most of us stopped there for tea and bacon sarnies. Paul had a miraculous recovery and from that point on it was myself who was struggling at the back. Good to see Simon G and Dave H out with us again. Simon is as ever very fit and Dave is clearly reaping the benefits of his weight loss programme. (SC)

Distance 53 miles
Av speed 15.1
